How to play Sort It

Sort It is the general knowledge quiz where you don't answer a question, you put things in order. A rule appears on screen, for example “Sort from the fastest animal to the slowest” or “Sort the films from the oldest to the most recent”, and every team gets the same set of cards in random order. The team that rebuilds the exact order wins the point. It's perfect for game nights with friends and family, because even if you don't know the exact numbers you can reason by comparison: “the cheetah is faster than the horse, the horse is faster than the cat…”.

Step-by-step rules

  1. Create your teams in the “Your teams” panel: each team gets its own row of cards.
  2. Choose how many items to play per round, from 4 (easy) to 10 (for experts).
  3. Read the rule and reorder the cards: drag them with the mouse, use the ◀ ▶ arrows on each card, or select one and press ← → on the keyboard.
  4. “Check” tells you how many cards are out of place without revealing which: you can fix them and try again.
  5. When a team has the perfect order, press “Point and solution”: that team scores +1 and every row shows the real values.
  6. “Next category” moves on to the next challenge.

Nearly 30 categories

Monument heights, animal speeds, food calories, box office takings, release years of cult films and animated classics, the founding years of brands and the invention dates of everyday objects, the most visited and most populous countries, chilli heat on the Scoville scale, caffeine in drinks, animal lifespans and weights, Big Mac prices around the world and much more. Each round draws different items, so the same category never plays the same way twice.

How many players do you need?

You can play solo to test yourself, or with 2-6 teams sorting at the same time, each on its own row. With the TV in the living room, give each team a few minutes and then check together. A round takes 2-4 minutes.

Tips and strategies

  • Start with the extremes: it's easier to find the first and last items, then fill in the middle.
  • Use “Check” wisely: you can agree that each team gets at most two checks per round.
  • Raise the difficulty: with 9-10 items even the experts will have to think hard.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play on a smartphone?

Yes: on phones the cards scroll horizontally and move with the ◀ ▶ arrows on each card.

Are the values up to date?

They're based on public data and estimates from around 2025. Celebrity ages are calculated from their date of birth every time.

What if two items have the same value?

Items with the same value can go in either order: the check treats both as correct.

Why do some cards show initials?

To avoid copyrighted photos, films, people and brands are shown as a colourful avatar with initials; everything else gets an emoji.
