How to play Odd One Out
Odd One Out is a high-tension team quiz where the goal isn't finding the right answer, but avoiding the wrong one. A question appears on screen, for example “Which animal can run faster than 65 km/h?”, along with ten face-down cards. Nine cards fit the question, one doesn't: that's the odd one out. Teams take turns flipping a card: green means safe, red means you found the odd one out and lost the round. It's perfect for parties and game nights because it mixes general knowledge, intuition and a good dose of luck.
Step-by-step rules
- Create your teams in the “Your teams” panel. You can play with 2 to 6 teams.
- The host reads the question. The scoreboard highlights the team whose turn it is: a different team starts each question.
- The team on turn picks a card and taps it. If it's safe (green), the turn passes to the next team.
- If it's the odd one out (red), that team loses the round and every other team scores +1 point.
- If only the odd one out is left, the team on turn is forced to take it.
- After each round you can reveal every card to see the values, then move on to the next question.
Two kinds of question
- 📊 Numbers: the odd one out is the card that's off the scale, such as the song with the fewest streams, the shortest film or the slowest animal. Each card shows its real value once flipped.
- 🧩 Logic: the odd one out is the one that doesn't belong, like Gandalf among Harry Potter characters or the shark among mammals. Each card explains why.
Use the selector at the top to play just one kind of question or mix them up. There are 70 questions and 700 cards in the English edition.
How many players do you need?
2 teams are enough, but the game gets more fun with 3-4 teams: the more teams there are, the more safe cards get flipped before someone hits the odd one out. A round takes a couple of minutes; a game of 10 questions takes about 20 minutes.
Strategies
- Pick the safest cards early on, while there are plenty to choose from.
- Beware of the obvious: questions hide traps, like the famous city that isn't a capital or the hit song with fewer streams than you'd think.
- Count the cards: near the end every pick matters more, and leaving the last “doubtful” card to your rivals is a winning move.
Frequently asked questions
Does the losing team lose points?
No: the team that finds the odd one out simply doesn't score, while every other team gets a point.
Can I skip a question?
Yes, with “Skip question”: the cards are revealed and nobody scores.
Where does the data come from?
From public sources such as official statistics, records and charts, updated to around 2025. Some figures, like music streams, change over time.
Why do some cards show initials instead of a picture?
To avoid copyrighted photos: every card shows an emoji or a colourful avatar with initials generated by the game.
