Two players or teams, 20 coins each and 10 items up for auction: win the best 5!

How to play Auction Battle

Auction Battle is the strategy-and-banter game where two players, or two teams, bid against each other for the best items in a category. Each side starts with 20 coins and must build a squad of 5 items: the strongest superheroes, the deadliest animals, the perfect dream house or the ideal team to survive a zombie apocalypse. At the end the group votes for the best squad. There's no right answer: the winner is whoever convinces everyone they got the best deal.

Step-by-step rules

  1. Pick one of more than 30 categories. With more than two teams in the panel you can choose who faces whom.
  2. The first of 10 items goes under the hammer. Players bid out loud and the host updates the bid with +1, +2, +5 or a custom amount.
  3. When nobody bids any higher, the host presses “Sold to…” for the highest bidder: the coins are deducted and the item joins their squad.
  4. If nobody wants the item, press “Pass” and it's discarded.
  5. You can't bid more coins than you have left. If one player already has 5 items, the rest go to the other player, even for free.
  6. At the end the round-up shows both squads: debate and vote for the winner, who scores +1 point on the leaderboard.

The categories

There's something for everyone: deadly animals, iconic villains, actors, singers and bands, TV series, superheroes, animated classics, films, fashion brands, dream destinations, desserts from around the world, magical objects, superpowers, dream cars, pizzas, video game icons, anime heroes, medieval and futuristic combat, the perfect holiday and “Free for Life”, the things you'd love to get free forever. In “Your Dream Land”, the items you win build an illustrated landscape of mountains, sea, cities and passions.

Winning strategies

  • Don't blow it all at once: with 20 coins and 5 slots, spending 15 on the first item leaves you with an unbalanced squad.
  • Bluff: bid on something you don't want just to make your opponent spend.
  • Grab the freebies: once your opponent's squad is full, the last items come to you at no cost.
  • Prepare your closing argument: votes are also won by explaining why your squad is the strongest.

Frequently asked questions

Are the coins real money?

No: they're game credits used only to run the auction, and they reset every game.

How many players do you need?

The auction is head-to-head, but each side can be a team. Everyone else acts as the jury for the final vote.

How long does a game take?

About 15-20 minutes per category, depending on how much arguing happens during the bidding.

Can we play remotely?

Yes: the host shares their screen on a video call and handles the bids the players call out.
